Irvine Island is within the traditional lands of the Mayala people. Irvine Island has long been recognised as an important site under Aboriginal traditional law and custom.

Pluton Resources has a heritage protection and exploration agreement with Mayala people.

Pluton Resources conducts Aboriginal heritage surveys with the Mayala people to ensure the impacts of exploration activities are acceptable to traditional owners. It continues to work with Mayala People to protect Aboriginal sites and ensure impacts are managed and minimized.

Pluton is committed to working with Mayala people to ensure that Irvine Island is protected and Mayala people are respected as traditional owners. It is committed to working with Mayala people to improve their social and economic status and takes a proactive approach by encouraging other companies to positively engage with native title groups.
